Background To Furey’s War

With the Japanese entry into World War Two, Australia became a forward base for both the Australian and American military, fighting in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. By 1942, there were 250,000 American troops based in Australia. For Australia, this had a huge cultural impact, and it was not without its problems. Jealousies, tensions and fights between allied servicemen were all too common. (see: https://www.awm.gov.au/articles/encyclopedia/homefront/us_forces )

It is Police Sergeant Jack Furey’s job to maintain order, when Australian and American troops are stationed in his small town. On top of that, he must solve a murder of an Australian serviceman, who has come home on leave.
